U.S. Releases Images of Venezuelan Leader Nicolás Maduro in Custody
The United States government has released official photographs showing former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in federal custody following his capture during a recent U.S.‑led military operation in Venezuela. The images depict Maduro surrounded by U.S. law enforcement officials after arriving at Stewart Air National Guard Base in New York under heavy security.
According to statements from U.S. authorities, Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, were apprehended in Caracas in early January and transported to the United States as part of the operation. After landing in New York, Maduro was reportedly flown by helicopter to Manhattan and is currently being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn pending legal proceedings.
Maduro is expected to appear in federal court in Manhattan, where he faces a series of criminal charges, including narco‑terrorism conspiracy, cocaine importation conspiracy, and weapons offenses. Both he and Flores have pleaded not guilty in their initial court appearances.
