Abia Pensioners Advise Governor Otti to Focus on Governance, Not 2027 Campaigns.

Retirees in Abia State, under the umbrella of Concerned Abia Pensioners, have advised Governor Alex Otti not to spend public funds on political campaigns ahead of the 2027 elections.

According to them, the Governor’s achievements in office are enough to earn him the support of the people.

The pensioners, who spoke during their bi-weekly meeting held in Umuahia on Thursday, warned politicians against any attempt to manipulate the political process in Abia State in 2027, insisting that such efforts would fail.

They maintained that it would be difficult for anyone to rig Governor Otti out of office due to his performance so far.

Speaking through their Coordinator, Emeka Okezie, and other leaders, the retirees recalled the severe hardship they endured under previous administrations as a result of unpaid pensions and neglect.

While commending Governor Otti for his efforts, the pensioners reminded him of the promise he made in 2025 to pay their outstanding gratuities and expressed hope that the commitment would be fulfilled.

“The Governor should not waste money on campaigns. In less than three years, he has done more than many expected,” the pensioners stated.

They also appealed to the Abia State Government to intervene in the ongoing issue with the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) in the state.

According to them, the outgoing NUP executive has kept the union’s office locked for several years, forcing pensioners to hold meetings in open spaces.
